Many of you knew John Wooster beginning at Lowell, while others knew John going back to Aptos, and some even knew John at Commodore Sloat. I first met John at Commordore Sloat long before my mother moved my sister and me to Los Angeles when I was in the middle of the 4th grade. I came across the article below (dated January 19, 1961) about the sudden death of John's father when John was only 9. John's father and my father were both born in 1915; both are now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetary (my father in 2000). I can't image what it would have been like to lose my father like John did at such a young age.

I could not find anything online about the death of John Wooster. Shelbourne, Jamie Carlson, and Mike Adelson reached out to one of John's friends to learn the facts. As a result Mike sent us this heart wrenching account of John's life over his last 30 years and how John passed away. I thought everyone should know the heoric fight that John and his family lived through.

That cute kid from Aptos--I had such a crush, probably just because he was taller than me which was rare in JHS. I loved his red hair!

I hope diabetics have better treatment options and prognosis today. It's a wonder how diabetics live with it and find out so surprisingly later in life.

My son in-law Gregg Wilkinson lived in Cool, CA  when he was diagnosed at the age of 17. Doesn't run in his family at all. He seems to have it under control, watching his diet and checking blood sugar. Though at times he runs out of gas and has to take it easy. He's married to my daughter Kelly, who's a family doctor. But she can't do more than watch and advise.

Thank-you for this information on John’s passing and the article regarding John’s Father. John always held a warm place in my heart —  his red hair, freckles , his pinky playing, his being able to go home for lunch everyday since he lived across the street, his attendance to the parties at  my home, his friendship with Laz  —- his spirit , his smile and our years together at Commodore, Aptos and my year at Lowell will always be part of my fond childhood memories. Again , thank- you for these pieces of information for John was dearly missed last Saturday night . Happy Trails until we meet again John !

A veteran of WWII, that can’t be “our” John Wooster!!

My dear Stephanie. You are correct it isn’t the John we know but rather his dad who died at such a relatively young age; how that affected our John as only a 9 year old! My grandfather also had diabetes and died at about the same age as our John; my grandfather went blind in his last few years plus changed his personality for the worst.
